Just back from a cousin's wedding in Bournemouth. Reception was a usual family affair of bad food, cheesy disco and drunken uncles. Left fairly early (before midnight), but still very tired, didn't catch up on lost sleep from the past week.

Finally started facing Gnu Go on 19x19 board - taking 6 stones.

Goodness, there's a lot of space to screw up there. Lost one game horribly, went over that game carefully, and just won the next one, by 8.5 moku.

I think I'll have to learn to play more cautiously around the edge and against cuts until I really know what's safe and what isn't. Better to accept the loss of a few points and defend solidly than to incompetently fight it and lose much more.

Update:
...and I won again by 24.5 moku - I do think some of that is learning the fairly formulaic fuseki Gnu Go is using. Another couple of games along these lines, and I'll let myself out onto the 'net.
