Looks like Intel have handed over the low-end server market to their rivals. After the poor performance of the recently released dual-core Xeons, there's news today (and here) of serious delays and problems with future Itaniums and Xeon cores. At the same time, AMD have just opened up Fab36 in Dresden, aiming to have 65nm production on 300mm wafers next year. Which suggests rumours of quad-core Opterons by late next year or early '07 might not be entirely wrong.

Can anybody suggest a good reason for buying Xeons?
