Everything went pear-shaped today, the length of time of the leasehold on the flat is too short. While I probably could get a mortgage on it, it'd be practically unsaleable in 5 years time.
The owners of the freehold don't want to extend the lease, so it'd be up to me to get it done. This, for some reason, would cost the best part of £10,000.
So far, what I've done about this is cycle to Ely via Fen Ditton, Waterbeach and Landbeach, then get the train back and go to the Arts Cinema to watch "Heaven".
It was odd, I was on my way home after talking to the financial advisor who broke the news, and on Midsummer Common I turned right along the river, instead of heading home. I then just kept going, in a totally unplanned route. I had a brief stop in Waterbeach to buy, er... water. A couple of miles from Ely I decided I was bored of being uncomfortable (mostly from the saddle, my legs weren't too bad), so just took the train back.
On Monday, I'll have to start talking to solicitors and suchlike to see if the current owners are willing to share the cost. I'd just about be willing and able to pay half the fee. If that doesn't work, I'm going to be back looking for somewhere to live.
