I've just realised how little I really understand about how the EU works; what the parliament, council, and commission do and how they interact; how decisions are made.

Fortunately, there's quite a lot of clear information on

Ghods, what a mess. I'm now much more interested in how all this is going to be sorted out in the next few years. Personally, I'm all for making national governments subject to a directly elected European parliament in much the same way local councils are subject to national governments; but it seems some people worry that “sovereignty” would be lost, which is a concept I'm finding it difficult to pin down. Why does it matter to me whether my senior elected representative works in London or Brussels? Or is it a fear that a body working for the greater-good of all stands more chance of excluding me in particular if it includes more people? I just don't see any problem that a European state poses that isn't already an internal problem for the current nation states.
